    UK Government

The government in the United Kingdom has decided against restoring compensation for victims of the asbestos-caused disease Pleural Plaques.

Pleural Plaques is the scarring of the lungs and is caused by exposure to asbestos fibers.

The decision that was made makes sure that Pleural Plaque victims will not receive compensation until they develop full-blown diseases from their asbestos exposure, including Mesothelioma.

Officials in the United Kingdom are preparing to reveal their decision about reversing a judgment disallowing individuals suffering from Pleural Plaques from taking legal action over their condition.

But now, researchers are warning the country that there may be a much larger threat than was expected originally. In fact, studies are showing that there may be as many as 90,000 people developing Pleural Plaques every year from exposure to asbestos fibers.

    Yorkshire England Pleural Plaques

The Government in England is talking with the Yorkshire county in order to try to set up a new national center to work towards finding a cure for cancer caused by asbestos. In addition, doctors in Yorkshire are fighting to get victims of pleural plaques the rights and compensation they deserve, and ministers are preparing to release a report on whether or not this will happen.

Those fighting for compensation believe that those with pleural plaques are more likely to develop Mesothelioma later in life and believe that they should receive compensation for the stress that causes.

Those with pleural plaques were able to apply for compensation until 2007 when the laws changed.

What do you think should happen?

    UK Workers Asbestos Compensation

The British construction union, Ucatt, has expressed concerns about the government in the United Kingdom. It seems that the government is not anticipated to compensate the thousands of construction workers who are victims of asbestos poisoning.

Seven months ago the government promised to compensate all Pleural Plaques sufferers, however they have yet to do so. Pleural Plaques are scarring on the lungs which increase the risk of Mesothelioma.

Ucatt’s fears come as the Government has still not responded to the consultation on restoring compensation to pleural plaques sufferers, seven months after they promised to do so.

The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, even went out of his way to twice promise an early resolution to the Pleural Plaques compensation issue, however he has yet to fulfill his promises.

The general secretary of Ucatt, Alan Ritchie, was quoted stating, “These constant delays in responding to the consultation are becoming decidedly sinister. Thousands of ordinary working class people have had their health needlessly damaged by breathing in asbestos. The Government’s delay and inaction is increasing their suffering.”
